MEDICATED SKIN WASH

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

This wonderfully soothing skin wash can be used for anything from taking off your makeup and cleansing oily skin, to alleviating any discomfort from skin rashes and irritations.

To make: In a large bowl, combine 2 pints of witch hazel extract (especially good for tightening large pores on the face) and

1 pint of rubbing alcohol.

Add 1 ounce of each: chopped dried burdock root and calendula flowers;

½ ounce each: dried beech bark, sage leaves, yarrow leaves and chopped Echinacea root.

Allow this mixture to steep, covered in the bowl or a large jar, for 1 week. Make sure you stir it well, daily.

At the end of the week, strain and discard the herbs. (Use the discarded herbs as a garden mulch).

To this liquid, add 1 cup of rosewater (recipe for rosewater in betweenclosefriends.com), and store your medicated skin wash in lidded bottles in a cool, dark place.

This lotion is also good for washing cuts and scrapes.
