Avocados are great on salads, but did you know that avocado oil has superior powers when it comes to slowing skin problems such as dermatitis and eczema, which can be aggravated by dry conditions? Applied directly to any itchy, red or irritated areas of skin provides almost instant relief which can last for several days.
But don’t stop there……because avocados are so rich in vitamins, minerals, and essential fatty acids, an avocado makes a wonderful hair conditioner for dry and damaged hair as well!
1. To bring back your hair’s natural lustre and shine, simply peel one very ripe and soft avocado, (discard the pit….or keep it and plant it for a wonderfully lush green plant). Mash the pulp very well so that there are no lumps in it. If you wish, adding a little bit of olive oil will make the pulp a little more liquidy and easier to apply–not to mention the additional benefits your hair will receive from the olive oil! 2. Now wash your hair as usual, squeezing out the extra water after your final rinse. Then massage the avocado pulp into your wet hair for 5 minutes. (The gentle massage stimulates the hair follicles as well as being relaxing and feeling terrific!). Leave the avocado in your hair for at least 10 minutes for the beneficial avocado oils to penetrate deep into your hair follicles. For extra lustre and body, after the scalp massage, cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap, then wrap in a terry towel and leave alone for the duration.
3. To rinse out, use tepid water so that you don’t ‘cook’ the avocado into your hair. It may take 2 or 3 rinses to thoroughly remove all of the beneficial avocado pulp, but the results showing in your ‘crowning glory’ will be well worth the effort it takes. Only one treatment will leave hair silky smooth for days!
4. If your hair is very damaged, use this Avocado Conditioner weekly. Healthier hair will also benefit from monthly treatments. However, if your hair is oily, an Avocado treatment is not recommended.
Also, please note do not use avocado on your hair if you have a known allergy to it.
