Hot Chocolate Syrup Mix

This Hot Chocolate Syrup Mix has just a hint of spiciness, and is especially satisfying after a day out in the cold winter weather served in a steaming mug and topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. You can double this recipe if your family really enjoys their hot chocolate, otherwise the basic recipe makes about 1 cup of syrup mix, which will accommodate approximately 12-15 steaming mugs of hot chocolate.

½ c cocoa (use a good quality cocoa mix, such as Frys)

¾ cu sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp ground cloves

¼ tsp ground allspice

¾ c boiling water

  1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and spices in small saucepan.
  2. Mix together well. While stirring, slowly add the boiling water.
  3. Boil on the stove for one minute.
  4. Remove from the stove and allow the hot chocolate mix to cool.
  5. Pour into a lidded jar and refrigerate between uses.

To use: add 3 T syrup to 1 cup of hot milk and stir.
