Friday, February 27th, 2009

Our felines can be our best friend, and as such richly deserve the best we can offer. All our baking efforts are so much appreciated, too! These quick and easy to make fishy treats are a favourite of even the most finicky cat. (for more cat treat and pet food recipes; herbal remedies/cures; herbal recipes; and so much more, please check the ‘category’ section of betweenclosefriends.com) The brewer’s yeast added to this Kittys Cheesy Tuna Treat recipe is an excellent source of essential fatty acids and B-Complex vitamins that is so necessary for your family pet’s glossy coat and for establishing a stable nervous system.
Ingredients: 1 (8 oz) can tuna in water, drained
2 oz cooked herring, (remove any skin)
2 tsp brewers yeast
2 T regular rolled oats (not quick cooking)
3 boiled and mashed medium-sized baby carrots
1 well beaten egg
2 T unsalted tomato paste
3 T grated cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp catnip (home grown preferred—more information available from betweenclosefriends.com blog)
1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a medium sized bowl, combine all of the ingredients. Mix together well, forming a soft dough.
3. Taking a scant teaspoon sized scoop, shape into bitesized 1/2 ” balls.
4. Place the kitty treats on a well greased cookie sheet, allowing cooking space between them.
5. Bake for approximately 10 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.
6. Remove from the oven and cool your Kitty’s Cheesy Tuna Treats on a wire rack.
7. These will go fast, as your family pets will beg for more. (They can never eat just one!) In between treat times, store your Kitty’s Cheesy Tuna Treats in a tightly sealed container.
