Fragrant Floral Bath Gels

Friday, November 7th, 2008

Floral Bath Gels—These are made with fresh or dried flowers, (such as lavender, thyme, and chamomile–check out the list of herbs and their corresponding attributes, under the “Hair Care” Categories of this blog) ground to a paste or powder, then added to water. You can use more water to make more of a soft soap, or use a little less water and shape into small rounds to use as a harder soap.

3 T fresh or dried flowers, picked from the stalks (your choice according to needs and desire)

½ cup water

12 T grated castile soap

3-4 drops oil of lavender or thyme (optional)

  1. Grinde your selection of gathered flowers with a mortar and pestle until they form a paste or powder. Pour the water into a small saucepan, then bring to a boil. Beat in the grated soap until it has dissolved. Then remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the ground flower powder and, if you wish, a selected essential oil.
  2. Leave this mixture to cool, then pour it into bottles. Cover, label and store in the refrigerator. You can use this mixture as a soft soap. (For a harder soap, use only enough water to mix–adding a tablespoon at a time. When cooled you can shape the mixture into small rounds, leave them to dry on wax paper, and store them separately in a bowl, using as individual ‘bath beads’ or soaps. )
