This Hot Chocolate Syrup Mix has just a hint of spiciness, and is especially satisfying after a day out in the cold winter weather served in a steaming mug and topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. You can double this recipe if your family really enjoys their hot chocolate, otherwise the basic recipe makes about 1 cup of syrup mix, which will accommodate approximately 12-15 steaming mugs of hot chocolate.
½ c cocoa (use a good quality cocoa mix, such as Frys)
¾ cu sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground cloves
¼ tsp ground allspice
¾ c boiling water
- Combine the cocoa, sugar and spices in small saucepan.
- Mix together well. While stirring, slowly add the boiling water.
- Boil on the stove for one minute.
- Remove from the stove and allow the hot chocolate mix to cool.
- Pour into a lidded jar and refrigerate between uses.
To use: add 3 T syrup to 1 cup of hot milk and stir.
