SOOTHING HOREHOUND COUGH SYRUP

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Make an infusion of fresh or dried horehound leaves, as per instructions below. Allow the brew to steep for only 10 minutes, though. Then strain the syrup, and measure the remaining liquid. Add twice as much honey as the measured remaining liquid, mixing together well. Bottle in a tightly lidded sterilized bottle.

To soothe a persistent cough, take approximately 1 teaspoon at a time of your horehound cough syruporehouh, about 4 times daily as needed. To make an Infusion: Bring a pint of water to a full rolling boil in a medium sized pot, then remove it from the heat. Immerse 1 ounce (approximately 2 cups full) of the dried herb in the boiled water and cover the pot tightly.

Let this infusion steep for 10-15 minutes, depending on the herbs potency and how strong a tisane you want to make. The herb will soak up approximately ½ cup of the water, leaving approximately 1½ cups of the resulting beverage.
