Flea-be-gone Pet Treats

One thing our outdoor pets (and sometimes our indoor pets too), experience is an infestation of those pesky health-affecting fleas. Weekly flea baths are fine for our canine friends, but felines balk at the thought!

These nutritious flea-be-gone pet treats are equally welcomed and enjoyed by both our feline and canine household members.

Flea-be-gone Pet Treats are quick and easy to make, keep for weeks, and definitely aid in the control of flea infestations. Ingredients: 3 T vegetable oil (safflower, olive)

1 T garlic powder

2 c unbleached flour

½ c wheat germ

½ c brewer’s yeast

1 tsp salt

1 c chicken broth (homemade is best, but can use a non salt bouillon cube dissolved in 1 cup of water instead)

  1. In a small bowl, mix together the oil and garlic powder. Set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients, stirring until well mixed.
  3. Slowly add the oil and garlic powder mixture to the dry ingredients; then stir in the chicken broth.
  4. Continue mixing until a doughy consistency is achieved.
  5. Roll out the Flea-be-gone Pet Treats dough onto a floured surface to about ¼ “ thickness.
  6. Use a knife to cut the dough into small squares, or use a cookie cutter of your choice. (Bones or round biscuits for dogs, small bite-sized kibble shapes for cats).
  7. Place your Flea-be-gone Pet Treats onto a greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are brown.
  9. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for 2 hours.
  10. When cold, store these tasty healthy pet treats in plastic bags or a lidded container, safely out of reach of your pet.
  11. Reward your pet on a daily basis with these Flea-be-gone Pet Treats to help keep fleas from setting up home on your loyal canine or feline.
