Nursing Orphaned Puppy Milk Formula

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Sometimes our female canine will not feed her puppies, or you may find an orphaned puppy abandoned. If this is the case, here are two milk formula recipe options that will closely duplicate their mother’s milk to keep your puppy healthy and growing. As freshness is mandatory for young pets, the Nursing Orphaned Puppy Milk Formula must be completely used within 24 hours. This recipe will yield 8 oz, enough for 1 puppy in one day. Option #1 Mix together 8 oz half-and-half cream with 1 egg yolk, blending together well.

Warm this Nursing Orphaned Puppy Milk Formula to body temperature in a small animal nursing bottle (available from your veterinarian, or a pet supply store), and feed to your nursing puppy.

NOTE:Half & half cream can be switched to whole milk after 4 weeks

Option #2 Use goat’s milk (found in health food stores). This closely matches a mother dog’s milk and requires no other added ingredients. Just warm to body temperature and serve in a small animal nursing bottle.
